July 21, 2025 The Crostini Challenge (see July 2, 2025 “The Challenge”) turned out to be more than what we imagined. People shared what they created, with most sharing how they made everything with the ingredients from our market. What did they create? Much more than traditional bruschetta.

July 9, 2025 When we get so much of a specific food item, it can change how we refer to it. In the case of receiving over 100 pounds of pizza rolls, we decided to temporarily alter the four food groups.

July 2, 2025 What do you get when you when you pick up over 100 large bags of toasted crostinis? The Crostini Challenge. Typically, we would place them toward the back of the market for shopper to pick up on their way out. We changed this so we could have some fun.

June 20, 2025 Teaching and mentoring students is a priority. Serving Good creates a community that serves others. This includes teaching and guiding teens and young adults as they develop skills and become adults. We are passionate about this in every sense of the word.

June 10, 2025 We pick up a lot of pastries, which includes cakes. One week, we picked up pastries, including a birthday cake that had a message: Happy Birthday Pablo! So when the Market began, we wanted to see if maybe Pablo came to our Market. Well, we got a surprise.

June 2, 2025 Sometimes it’s not adults that step up and set an example in the Serving Good community. In this case it was a 15 year-old boy that didn’t hesitate to help when needed. We didn’t know who he was until we asked among our community of shoppers. We knew his name was Lucas and we wanted to thank him.

May 26, 2025 When we began picking up food for stores, we received some produce that was just not suitable for people. Yet we saw throwing it away as a waste. Early on, we developed relationships with local farms and ranches that could use this food. In the second quarter of this year, we formalized our Food for Farms program.

May 12, 2025 If you have been to our market recently, you probably noticed that we have been getting a lot of flowers from Trader Joe’s, including bouquets of flowers and potted flowers. One of our young market shoppers used these for a competition.

May 6, 2025 One of our partner organizations asked us if we were interested in a foam playhouse for kids. It was still in the box and had never been put together. Our answer to these questions is always yes.

April 27, 2025 Did you ever wonder how all that food gets to the market? Well, it is a combination of art and organization. It’s a bit like playing Tetris in some cases and in others, well it’s more like the art of creating a clown car of food.

April 21, 2025 Grocery Outlet has been doing inventory rotations again. We talked to the management and we arranged to get ALL of it.

April 13, 2025 This week we have some new additions to our market. First, we have multiple cases of hot sauce. The hot sauce bottles are small, but they all have a bit of a kick.

April 6, 2025 It’s going to be another good week for our markets. We have a special offer to a family or families that could use these. As always, everything here is free.

April 3, 2025 Grocery Outlet in El Cajon gave us more Lucky Charms than we ever thought we would get. You all stepped up and helped us find a home for almost 200 pounds of Lucky Charms.

March 30, 2025 As most of you know from shopping our market, we have grown significantly in the past six months. We have more veterans and even more families coming to our markets. With this growth, we continue to work to make Serving Good markets a place that everyone wants to visit.

March 24, 2025 This week we have a lot of shelf-stable products for our Pantry section. As always, we also have our complete range of food available. Remember to use our bag concierge service if your bag gets too heavy. We will store your bag while you finish shopping.

March 20, 2025 “What is THAT?”…That is the question we heard the most at this week’s market when people pointed at this tag attached to some produce. The answer is obvious by the tag that reads “Kohlrabi”. But what is it?

March 17, 2025 Hello and Happy St. Patrick’s Day!! We are excited to see you this week. We will have a lot of food this week, including a lot of eggs. There is also no rain in the forecast. That means…it’s time for another raffle.
